GARRISON, TX (KTRE) - Ever since he could tie his shoes, Justin Garcia wanted to run.
From field days to playing with friends, the Garrison senior was always wanting to be the fastest. In middle school he was able to run track and from the first meet he was hooked. The years of hard work have paid off as Garcia is now set for the next level.
It will not be a far haul for him to go to college. On Wednesday, Garcia signed with SFA.
"I have been waiting on it for awhile," Garcia said. "It is a dream come true to get to run for my home town. The coaches really welcomed me in and made me feel at home. The atmosphere was good and the teammates were good."
Garcia is not done in high school, he still has the state track meet next week in Austin where he hopes to bring home the gold in several events.
"SFA is getting a special athlete," Garrison Track Coach Tracy Bolton said. "Justin works hard in the classroom and on the track. He will do whatever he is asked to do. In my two years of being here, he has stepped up and been the leader we needed. He could have gone to a bigger school but he chose SFA because it is close to his family. He is a family oriented guy. SFA got a steal. You cannot replace a Justin Garcia."
