LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lately the Ellen Trout Zoo has welcomed several new additions this year, and yet another species of animal has been added to the list. But, this is one you might even find in your background.
Five baby raccoons came into the world, eight weeks, and have recently made their debut on exhibit.
It all began when the zoo acquired a female raccoon, who had been hand raised by people, a few months ago. They had no idea the raccoon was pregnant, but were more than happy to welcome the five babies.
Zoo staff said that the only boy baby had some trouble eating in the beginning, but they helped out and now all five are looking healthy. They plan on keeping the family together for as long as the animals are comfortable with it.
