When Sunday night rolls around, many East Texans will be on pins and needles as they watch to see if Shelbyville native Cade Foehner makes it into the Top 3 on "American Idol."
Last Sunday, Foehner made it into the show's Top 5 with Gabby Barrett, Caleb Lee Hutchison, Maddie Pope, and Michael J. Woodard.
Viewers voted for the Top 5 contestants based on how well they did on the performance show the week before. Each contestant did a song from his or her catalog, along with a song from the year he or she was born.
Last week Foehner performed Jewel's "Who Will Save Your Soul" and The Time's "Jungle Love." In addition to the show's normal roster of judges, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, Nick Jonas stepped in to be the mentor of the week.
Voting opens on Sunday, April 29 at 7 p.m. CST, and closes at the show's last commercial break. Here's more information about how to vote.
Each season, "American Idol" goes to the hometowns of its Top 3 contestants. Tentative plans are already in place in the event Foehner makes it into the show's elite Top 3 group.
A spokeswoman for the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce said if Foehner gets into the show's Top 3, a ceremony in his honor will be held on the courthouse square in downtown Center on Tuesday, May 15. She said that the county judge and the Shelbyville mayor will be there to read a proclamation and present Foehner with keys to the county and city.
Jill Baty, the assistant superintendent of Shelbyville ISD, said that if Foenher gets into the Top 3, they will hold a parade through Shelbyville starting at 4:30 p.m. The parade will end at the Shelbyville ISD football stadium, and a pep rally/concert will start around 5 or 5:15 p.m.
