Lufkin's Keke Coutee hits the field for Day 1 of Rookie Mini Camp

HOUSTON, TX (KTRE) - Houston Texans rookie wide receiver Keke Coutee was all smiles Friday afternoon, less than two hours where his dream all started.

"Lufkin means so much for me," Coutee said. "I will always love my hometown. This is great getting the opportunity only an hour and 45 minutes away from home."

Coutee was drafted in the fourth round by the Houston Texans in last months NFL draft. Many draft analyst questioned the size of the wide receiver. Coutee stands just 5'10''. Texans head coach Bill O'Brien has watched the game tape of Coutee shredding through Big 12 defenses and he likes what he sees.

"He is a well put together guy," O'Brien said. "He might not be the biggest guy but he has the body type for that position.  When we watched him on tape with Texas Tech. It was speed and his hands. This  is a different team here so lets see how he does."

Coutee is just wanting to make the 53 man roster and prove the doubters wrong. It is something he has been doing since wearing purple on Friday nights in Lufkin.

"I have always had that chip on my shoulder," Coutee said. "I think it is a little bigger now. I just want to prove all the doubters wrong. I was told that [I'm too small] all my life so I did the best I could."

Coutee said it would be an honor to play with Deshawn Watson and the offense.

"These guys are professionals so to work at the same level as them is very important," Coutee said. "They know it all right know and we are just trying to pick it up and get out there next week with the veterans."

Coutee could make an impact at the wide receiver position but like most rookies, special teams could also be a place where he finds his calling. No matter where he plays he is just happy to be able to go out and perform at the professional level and with a team so close that all his hometown fans can still support him.
