NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nine firefighters from Nacogdoches are helping battle the fire in west Texas.
The fire in Mallard has now reached more than 69,000 acres. Across the state, 131 other firefighters also help put the fire out with the help of 44 engines in operation.
"Our firefighters gain useful skills and experience that they bring back to East Texas," said Keith Kiplinger, fire chief with Nacogdoches Fire Department.
Kiplinger is also state fire mutual coordinator.
