JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office arrested a 27-year-old man early Sunday morning in connection with a shooting incident at a club that injured multiple victims.
Derez Dwight Thompson, of Jasper, is still being held in the Jasper County Jail on a second-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. His bond amount has been set at $40,000.
Chief Deputy Glenn Blank said that the shooting incident occurred at a club in the West Lake community at about 12:48 a.m. Sunday.
"The suspect said the firearm accidentally went off five times," Blank said.
In response to a question about how many people were arrested, Blank said two people suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, and a third person was listed as "other" in the report.
Thompson was arrested at the scene without incident and taken to the county jail. Blank said that Thompson has been very cooperative with authorities after his arrest.
However, witnesses at the scene told law enforcement that they didn't see what happened.
