LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Day one is in the books for the UIL Golf Championships.

Several athletes from Deep East Texas are in contention after Round 1.

At the 3A level, Central is in 9th place. The Bulldogs do have ground to make up, being 48 shots behind first place Pottsboro who shot a 309. Central's Cameron Hubbard is in 5th place with a 77. He sits 8 shots back of the leader.

Jack Summers of Central Heights is only competing as an individual. He shot an opening round 78. The 3A championship will wrap up on Tuesday from  Grey Rock Golf Course in Austin.

On the 2A side, the Grapeland Sandies are leading the school competition with a 315. They are 8 shots ahead of Vega High School.  Douglass is sitting in 8th place, shooting a 345.

Grapeland's Rick Frauenberger leads the individual competition with a 68. Douglass' Trevor Roquemore is in third with a 71. Grapeland's Brayden Cheatham and Case Boyd are 6th and 7th in the individual competition. The 2A Championships will wrap up on Tuesday from Roy Kizer Golf Course in Austin.
