After 14 years, Hudson ISD to look for new basketball coach

HUDSON, TX (KTRE) - After 14 years of stability, the Hudson basketball program will need to find a new boys varsity basketball coach.

Hudson ISD Superintendent Donny Webb, the school board approved the request of Rob Peterson to be moved from a dual- 10 month contract to a single-10 month contract. Webb said this would eliminate Peterson from being the basketball coach. Peterson responded to KTRE on Monday by email. Peterson said the decision came down to family.

"One of the hardest decisions to make was stepping down as the Head Coach for Hudson basketball," Peterson said. "The decision that my wife and I made came down to sacrifice.  She has been offered a wonderful opportunity at another school district.  She has sacrificed for me the past 14 years here at Hudson, and now it is my turn to sacrifice for her. "

In his 14 years, numerous players have come through the program and Hudson became one of the favorites to always contend for a district title.

"It has been an honor and privilege to serve as head coach of the Hornets," Peterson said. "I have spent 14 years with Hudson Athletics and was fortunate to be a part of three regional tournament teams and 7 district championships.  Hopefully it has been evident these last 14 years here how much pride I take in representing this district."

For the time being, Peterson will remain with the district.

"As I search for an opportunity near where my wife will be working, I will remain at Hudson ISD as the DAEP Director," Peterson said. "I decided to step away from basketball now to allow the administration time to search for the next head coach at Hudson.  I strongly believe the time is right for my family and Hudson basketball. I am grateful for the opportunity that Hudson has allowed me the past 14 years.  I have developed and plan to maintain all of the positive relationships I have formed along the way.  I appreciate the support of the administration and Hudson Community and wish Hudson Basketball the best!"

Webb said the district already has the job vacancy posted online and right now the district is evaluating applicants and scheduling interviews.
