LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - During her valedictorian speech, a Pineywoods Community Academy High School graduate bowed to her parents.
Elizabeth Eng, 18, said she wanted to bow as a gesture to express her deep gratitude for her parents' large role in her success. The Cambodian Chinese student said bowing is a rare gesture saved for momentous occasions.
"They made a living here for me and my siblings," Eng said. "They made a living here so I could go on and could become something (they) would be proud of. Something they couldn't become themselves."
Not only did Eng graduate with a diploma, but she also earned an Associates Degree from Angelina College. Eng plans to work for the summer but then head to the University of Houston.
