Late rally by Normamgee ends Woden's season in state softball semis

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A surge in the seventh inning by Normamgee propelled the Lady Panthers to an 8-7 win over Woden.

Normangee was making the school's first-ever appearance at the state tournament after defeating Shiner in the regional final 7-1. Woden advanced to the game after beating Grapeland 3-2 in their regional final.

Both teams would get on the scoreboard in the first inning. Two errors led to the Woden run while Normangee scored after getting a couple of hits.

No one would score again until the bottom of the third when a Normangee single would clear the basses and Normangee would take a 3-1 lead. They would add one more run to make the lead 4-1.

Normangee threatened to score again in the 4th but a strong Woden defense got all three outs by catching Normangee runners trying to get greedy on the base paths including a throw out at home.

Woden would storm back in the 5th inning and score 6 runs to take a 7-4 lead.

As the visiting team, Woden looked to get some insurance runs in the seventh but Normangee would hold off an aggressive Lady Eagles team that loaded the bases.

In the bottom of the seventh Normangee was able to score two more runs before loading the bases with 2 outs. With a full count, Woden will walk in the tieing run. Normangee then gets an RBI single to win 8-7.

Normangee will face the winner of The Albany vs Beals semifinal.
