Lukfin Police Department raising money for officer, wife diagnosed with cancer

EAST TEXAS (KTRE) - The Lufkin Police Department is hoping the community will throw their support, and their donations, behind an event for an officer and his wife who were both diagnosed with cancer.

Officer Seth Thompson has been through two battles with testicular cancer. He recently went into remission.

His wife Hannah Thompson is a former dispatcher for Lufkin Police Department. Hannah was diganosed with Stage 3 breast cancer on May 9, according to the Team Thompson Facebook page. Her cancer was later upgraded to Stage 4 when a bone scan and biopsy showed the cancer had metastasized in her bones.

The couple has a 1-year-old named Stoke.

Hannah is undergoing treatment in Houston and a series of fundraisers are planned to help the family offset their medical costs, the Lufkin Police Department said in a news release.

LPD said the first event will be a Father's Day Barbecue at Shelton's Place, 3603 FM 2018 in Lufkin.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 17. Lunches must be pre-ordered and paid for before the event via PayPal or an invoice. To pre-order, call Sabrina at (936) 238-0213 or Dee Dee at (936) 465-2472 or message the Team Thompson page.
