Huntington coaches stress hydration in summer heat

HUNTINGTON, TX (KTRE) - The Huntington coaching staff is working hard with around 100 students from the district until Friday on football skills.

Second year head coach Jim Kerbow wanted to work with the youth football league on improving skills and relationships with the younger students.

On top off the footwork and tackling drills, the most important advice he was giving the players was to stay hydrated.

"It keeps them acclimated to the heat," Kerbow said. "We don't want anyone to have a heat stroke. it is important if you are out here working that you stay hydrated. We take this seriously. The UIL requires us to give water breaks about every 20 minutes now. We did have a kid this morning say he didn't feel good so we sat him down and watched him to make sure he was okay. We don't want any of the kids to get hurt out here."
