LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The 2A Region III baseball bracket has come down to two Nacogodoches teams.

Douglass and Woden each have baseball success and are backed by fan bases that love the sport. On Thursday night, Woden took a one game lead in their best of three regional final series.

In front of a packed Angelina College Baseball stadium, Drew Shifflet took command of the game. Shifflet struck out 12 batters in 7 complete innings of work and allowed just one hit. At the plate Shifflet also had a clutch hit to deep center that scored two runs in the fifth inning.

Woden took game1, 7-0. Woden can punch their ticket to the state tournament with a game 2 win on Friday back at Angelina College. If Douglass wins game 2, then game 3 will follow. The action picks up on Friday at 5 pm.
