(KTRE) - An East Texan will soon be inducted into the women's basketball Hall of Fame.
Former SFA women's basketball player Debra K. Thomas received the exciting news just a few months ago, learning that the ceremony will talk place in Knoxville, TN this Saturday.
After Thomas played for the SFA Lumberjacks, she played for the Team U.S. Team and was picked to be a part of the first women's basketball league.
This league began in 1978 and over its short four-year tenure, grew into 15 teams. One of those teams had Thomas on its roster.
The Iowa Cornets picked SFA's Debra K. Thomas in the first round; and in their first two years reached the WBL finals.
The future Hall of Famer was surprised when she received the call about this extraordinary honor and didn't believe it was true.
Thomas said she is very excited and praised her cousins and coaches for instilling confidence in her.
So next time you watch an WNBA game, just remember who did it first.
