Background Checks For Evacuees

by Jessica Cervantez

As dozens of evacuees continue to live at the Lufkin shelter, a major goal is to make sure to keep it a safe environment. Before anyone stepped into the shelter, there was a plan in place.

As evacuees are entered into the system, background checks are made to make sure there are no registered sex offenders, and to make sure there are no warrants out.

Lt. Greg Denman, with the Lufkin police dept., said, "The only thing we were really concerned about was sex offenders, so we checked those out, we just didn't have any."

So far, no major problems have been reported at the Lufkin shelter.
