Making it official, Rodriguez signs deal with Orioles

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches teenager Grayson Rodriguez made his professional baseball status official a week after being drafted by Baltimore in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.

Rodriguez has been in Baltimore all week meeting with the team and sightseeing. On Tuesday Rodriguez met with team officials and signs his first big league contract that came with a reported $4.3 million signing bonus.

Baltimore is hoping the Rodriguez that went 14-1 with a 0.38 ERA and 178 strikeouts this past season at Central Heights can put up pro numbers for Baltimore.

"He was a consistent performer. He held up very well. He was consensus pick for us in the first round," Orioles director of scouting Gary Rajsich said earlier in the week to MLB.com. "We all loved him, just thrilled he was there for us at pick 11."

According to an MLB.com article on Tuesday, Rodriguez will head to Sarasota, FL for workouts and could join Baltimore's Gulf Coast League team as soon as the end of June.
