LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The John Outlaw Memorial Golf Tournament is entering it's seventh year and it could be the biggest one yet.
The yearly summer event is a two day tournament with two-person teams going at it. This year's event will take place on July 28th and 29th.
"We are currently at 72 teams," organizer Gary Ivins said. "We want to get that to 100. We still have several weeks so I don't see why we could not do it."
The top team in each of the 6 flights will get $2,000. The cost per team to enter is $550.
"Over the past five years we have given out two $2,500 scholarships each year," Ivins said. "Then to see those kids come back and talk to the current students, i think if coach were still here he would be proud."
The scholarships are given to student athletes through the John Outlaw Foundation. Information can be found here.
