Lufkin police arrest woman found sleeping on table on drug charge, warrants

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin police officers arrested a 38-year-old woman on a drug charge and outstanding warrants Wednesday after a property owner went to a house on Chestnut Street and found her sleeping on top of a table.

Karen Sue Bynog, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a state-jail felony possession of a controlled substance charge, a Class C possession of drug paraphernalia charge, and a Class C misdemeanor public intoxication charge. Collectively, her bond amount has been set at $2,000.

According to the narrative of the Lufkin PD offense report, an LPD officer was dispatched out to a home in the 200 block of North Chestnut Street to check out a report of a burglary in progress. When the officer got to the scene, he or she made contact with the property owner.

The complainant told the officer that he had come to his property to clean it. Once the man arrived at the home on Chestnut Street, he found a woman who was later identified as Bynog asleep on top of a table, the narrative stated.

The property owner told the LPD officer no one was allowed in the house and that the woman wouldn't respond to him and refused to leave the house. She continued to lie on the table, the narrative stated.

When the LPD officer approached the residence, he spotted Bynog inside.

After a second officer arrived on the scene, the LPD officers checked to see if anyone else was in the house. Once they had cleared the house, the arrested Bynog for criminal trespass of a habitation.

Bynog was then escorted to one of the Lufkin PD patrol units. When the first LPD officer on the scene searched Bynog's purse and found a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance the officer believed was methamphetamine, the narrative stated. A field test confirmed the officer's suspicion.

The LPD officer had dispatch run Bynog's name and found out that she had active warrants for possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication from the Lufkin Municipal Court, the narrative stated.

Bynog was then taken to the Angelina County Jail.
