Police department releases name of man who drowned in Lake Nacogdoches

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

The Nacogdoches Police Department has released the name of the 87-year-old man who drowned at Lake Nacogdoches Thursday afternoon.

According to a press release, the drowning victim has been identified as James “Jim” Wellington Brake, of Nacogdoches.

At about 12:30 p.m., Brake was seen entering the west side swimming area of Lake Nacogdoches, the press release stated. Witnesses said that after Brake swam for a period of time, they noticed that he was possibly in distress, and he disappeared under the water.

The witnesses were able to pull Brake to the shore.

Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Kerry Don Williamson pronounced Brake dead at the scene. An autopsy has been ordered in the case.
