Everyone in East Texas has been doing their part to help the evacuees recover from Hurricane Katrina. Now, local bands are hoping to help as well.
Local bands in East Texas came together at a Red Cross benefit concert to make music, hoping to drum up money for hurricane Katrina evacuees.
"I just couldn't imagine anybody being totally wiped out with absolutely nothing left. It's just the neighborly thing to do. That's how Texans are," says Mike Painter, one of the event's organizers.
Donations at the benefit concert started with band members giving $5.00 each. In honor of those who lost so much, an evacuee is the first musician to perform.
Painter says he hopes the concert for a positive cause will have positive results.
