First Alert: A dangerously, hot weekend expected in East Texas

(KTRE) - With a heat wave already in progress and expected to continue through this weekend and into early next week, First Alert Weather Days will remain intact from now through this weekend.

The triple digit heat expected this weekend has triggered numerous Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories covering much of our KTRE viewing area as some of the hottest weather in over three years will be invading our region in the days ahead.

The dangerous part of this heat will mainly come from the heat index or feels like temperatures, which will range from 105-110 degrees each afternoon from now through early next week as a ridge of high pressure strengthens its grip and sits overhead.

With this type of heat in East Texas, heat-related illnesses will be possible over the next several days.

Therefore, please limit your time outdoors.  Drink plenty of Gatorade and/or water to replenish your thirst and stay properly hydrated.  Seek the air conditioning as much as possible.  If you have to be outdoors, take frequent breaks and seek shade whenever possible.  And make sure you check on the kids and elderly, since they tend to be more susceptible and prone to taking on heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

The heat precautions are common sense, but it is important that they are top-of-mind for all of us so that everyone can be safe and beat the heat.
