JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A 40-year-old Camp woman was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler that occurred in Jasper County Saturday afternoon.
According to a press release, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 96 just north of Recreational Road 255 in Jasper County at about 4;30 p.m. Saturday. The crash involved an 18-wheeler and two passenger vehicles.
The preliminary crash report shows that an 18-wheeler was traveling south on US 96, and a Nissan pickup truck was behind it. At the same time, Spring Lee Letts was driving a Hyundai passenger vehicle north on U.S. 96.
"For an unknown reason, the driver of the Hyundai crossed into the southbound traffic lane and struck the 18-wheeler," the press release stated. 'The impact of the collision caused the Hyundai to spin into the path of the Nissan pickup truck, striking the Nissan on the driver's side of the vehicle."
A medical helicopter transported Letts to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Letts' injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, the press release stated.
The drivers of the 18-wheeler and the Nissan were not injured in the wreck, the press release stated.
"This remains an active crash investigation as troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to the crash," the press release stated.
