Hwy 59 Traffic Detour

If you thought that the traffic heading back into the Houston-Galveston area would be bad enough, TXDOT officials are now saying that motorists must take a detour from Hwy 59.

The Trinity River Bridge between Livingston and Shepherd remains closed as a precaution while water is being released from the Lake Livingston Dam due to the damage caused by Rita.

All Hwy 59 traffic north of Lufkin is being detoured west to State Hwy 7 to Crockett, to State Hwy 21, and then to I-45 to Houston.

Hwy 59 traffic south of Lufkin is being detoured to Huntsville on U.S. Hwy 190, and then to I-45 to Houston. Officials also want to remind you that all roads from State Hwy 103 east of Lufkin to Hwy 59 are closed. Motorists attempting to travel on these roads will be turned around.
