Prize Patrol awards teachers from 10 East Texas schools $57k in grants

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Independent School District's Prize Patrol handed out $57,865 in classroom grants Thursday to teachers for innovative learning projects that cannot be funded through the standard school district budget.

The funds were spread out among 25 grants across 10 campuses in the Lufkin school district. Teachers submit grant applications and a committee chooses which ones get funded.

Campuses became pep rallies as buses with 'prize patrol' written on the side pulled up to present cardboard checks to winning teachers. The celebrations also included cheerleaders, a drum line, and plenty of district supporters.

Thursday's winners include:

  • Lufkin High School - 2 grants
  • Herty Primary School - 1 grant
  • Dunbar Primary School - 4 grants
  • Brandon Elementary School - 3 grants
  • Brookhollow Elementary School - 1 grant
  • Trout Primary School - 1 grant
  • Lufkin Middle School - 6 grants
  • Burley Primary School - 2 grants
  • Slack Elementary School - 2 grants
  • Anderson Elementary School - 3 grants

District officials said the money will be used in various classroom projects, such as setting up a garden to acquiring digital human anatomy resources.
