U.S. 59 at the Trinity River Bridge at the Polk and San Jacinto county line is open to traffic. The highway was opened at midnight. Motorists can now take U.S. 59 all the way to Houston, but are reminded that fuel availability remains a major issue. Motorists should also watch for abandoned vehicles throughout the route, and should expect heavy delays due to traffic congestion from the number of evacuees returning home.
