Baptist Men Know How To Work Disasters

by Donna McCollum

Evacuee shelters in Nacogdoches are receiving some special help with food service. The Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief has set up its mobile kitchen. The kitchen is located behind the Nacogdoches Recreation Center. The group has been working in San Antonio but found the need greater here.

The men are ordering supplies. They're also planning and preparing meals for that shelter and all the church shelters in Nacogdoches. They have the ability to serve 20,000 meals. Mike Brittain said, "Here in this location where we are at right now we're doing about 2000 meals per average per meal, but we already used some down in San Antonio so it goes away pretty fast."

This is the second time in two years the Baptist men have helped out in Nacogdoches. They were here in 2003 for the Columbia Shuttle disaster.
