Nacogdoches County officials searching for pastor accused of sexual assault

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a wanted fugitive accused of sexual assault.

According to the sheriff's office, the warrant for the arrest of Jose Uriel Rendon, 52, was issued on Thursday. They reported they have an ongoing investigation on Rendon after the victim "made an outcry of sexual assault."

Rendon is a pastor at Templo De Fe Church in Nacogdoches County, according to NCSO. He allegedly used his position at the church to "take advantage and sexually assault a child" between the years 2004 and 2005. The sheriff's office reported Rendon is accused of sexually abusing the child over 50 times while maintaining his position with the church.

Investigators with the sheriff's office obtained sufficient probable cause for a warrant which charges Rendon with continuous sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.  Rendon was to meet with investigators Monday morning in order to discuss the allegations, however, he failed to show up. According to the sheriff's office, Rendon has been gone from his residence since Tuesday and they believe he is on the run.

The sheriff's office reported Rendon is known to have family in the Tyler and Dallas areas as well as family in Mexico.

The investigation on Rendon is ongoing and the sheriff's office believes that there may be more victims. They urge any victims to contact the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office asks anyone with information about the Rendon's whereabouts to contact them at 936-560-7777 or their local law enforcement agency.
