Dallas Workers Visit East Texas Shelters

by Ramonica R. Jones

TXU is doing its part to help hurricane evacuees. Besides restoring power, more than a hundred Dallas-area workers spent the day helping out in East Texas shelters.

TXU spokesperson, Sophia Stoller, said, "From helping out with laundry to helping distribute food, really, we're here to help out the volunteers from Red Cross that have been working for the past three days. We're here to take their place and help any way that we can."

Evacuees in Lufkin are grateful, but many want more federal help.

Beaumont resident, Tuquita Clark, said, "I'm from Texas. When Katrina survivors came here, we helped them. We donated money to them, but we can't even get any help and we're from Texas, and that's why I'm upset."

TXU Energy volunteers were spread out among 25 shelters in Lufkin and Nacogdoches.
