Rita Rally Relief Fund

by Jessica Cervantez

Churches from all over East Texas are needing help. Many of them housed hundreds of evacuees, running up expenses the churches can not pay for.

That is why Clawson Assembly of God on Highway 69 North will hold a fundraising rally Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. They are inviting all churches housing evacuees. They hope the community will come together to help the churches raise money. There will also be an information session and a time for worship.

The church had originally planned for a hundred evacuees, but that soon turned into 400.

Kevin Poage, a pastor, said, "We ran out of toilet tissue the first day, out of supplies the first day, and I know a lot of other churches are like this, but what else can you do when people are outside the door wanting a place to stay and the storm is coming."

There is also a Rita Relief Fund set up at Huntington State Bank.
