Flag-Raising Ceremony Honors Our Troops

by Ramonica R. Jones

Huntington city leaders had a brief flag-raising ceremony Monday in honor of our troops.

The flag at the Veterans memorial had been lowered to half-staff just before Rita pounded the Gulf Coast. It was returned back to its normal position just as things in East Texas are slowly getting back to normal.

Lowering the flag in severe weather was the first for the town of Huntington.

Mayor Herman Woolbright said, "We thought it would be good if some of the troops [were] here. We were expecting some from the National Guard and some people from the forest service - these are people who helped us out during the hurricane."

Herman Woolbright's only been mayor of Huntington for about a month. He says Hurricane Rita is the worst disaster the town has ever seen.
