Gas Leak

No one knows who will get the bill for the loss of about 1200 gallons of gasoline and the cleanup that followed. Environmental cleanup crews dug a huge hole behind the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Department where the accident happened. All the contaminated soil is being removed.

A gas tank for an emergency fuel supply was missing a three inch plug. As the 2500 gallon tank was being filled, the gas was going out the bottom. FEMA provided the tank. The Texas Forest Service delivered it. A local distributor attempted to fill it. Sheriff Thomas Kerss is wanting some agreement to be reached about who will pay for the unfortunate event.
