Freddie Rodrigues Montes

A descendant of early Spanish settlers, she was born on November 8, 1917 in Nacogdoches County and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 8, 2005.   She was married to Sam H. Montes, who preceded her in death.

She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University.  During her career as a teacher, she taught at Bonaldo, Fern Lake and Sacred Heart schools.  While these schools no longer exist, the first two were important to the Spanish-speaking children of earlier decades and the latter to Catholic children until the late 1970’s.  She completed her teaching career at the Head Start Child Development Center in Nacogdoches.  She was a life-long member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and, until slowed by illness, was very active in the Altar Society and other Parish activities.

Manchaca and Vera Rodrigues of Nacogdoches; and thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
