At least 116 women across Texas lost their lives to domestic violence last year. That number dropped from the previous year, but it is still way too high.
The area women's shelter usually holds three candlelight vigils across East Texas every year to recognize those women who have died because of domestic violence. This year, the shelter has been busy taking care of displaced storm victims.
So, there will only be one vigil. 1,400 East Texans were helped at the shelter last year.
