National Latino AID Awareness Day

by Jessica Cervantez

AIDS is the third leading cause of death for Hispanic women age 35 to 44. The high aids rate is the reason for a clinic targeting Hispanics.

October 15th is the 3rd Annual National Latino AIDS Awareness Day. But on Friday, caseworkers at Health Horizons in Nacogdoches were giving free AIDS tests.

They went out to the Hispanic community passing out fliers encouraging Hispanics around the area to get tested.

Ivonne Gutirrez, who was tested, said, "There was a young lady passing out a fliers and said there would be free exams, I said, 'I would love to,' I want to know if I'm healthy or not."

The Hispanic community is the least likely to get tested for AIDS.
