Furniture Store Destroyed In Fire

by Ramonica R. Jones

One of Lufkin's long-time businesses was destroyed by fire Tuesday morning.

The fire started around 2:30 a.m. at Castleberry's Furniture Center on Frank Avenue. It may have started in the back of the store near the air conditioning units.

Castleberry's has been at the location since 1981. The owner plans to rebuild.

Cooper Castleberry said, "This is how I feed my family. It's all I know, so if that's what it takes, that's what we'll do."

It took about an hour and a half to put out the fire. The cause is still being investigated.

All Lufkin units responded to the fire along with the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department and about a dozen off-duty Lufkin firefighters.
