For the 13th year in a row, Memorial hospital in Lufkin paid tribute to Jan Moore.
Moore was a nurse at the hospital. She was also an advocate of breast cancer awareness for many years. She died of breast cancer in 1992.
Nurses, physicians, and breast cancer survivors from Memorial honor her memory each year with the Jan Moore Lecture Series. It's held during the month of October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Dr. Sid Roberts, medical director of the Arthur Temple Sr. Regional Cancer Center, said, "The message this year is about diet and nutrition and what we can do in our day to day lifestyle to help reduce our risk of breast cancer for women and cancer in general."
Exercising, eating right, and getting breast exams regularly are shown to be effective in the fight against breast cancer.
