HOUSTON (AP) The National League champion Houston Astros have extended the contract of manager Phil Garner by one year. The Astros today announced the new deal with Garner is through the 2007 season. Terms weren't released.

Team owner Drayton McLane Junior says he's pleased with the team's performance under Garner. Garner, since taking over in mid-2004, has led Houston to a 137-and-99 record -- including an 89-73 record during the 2005 regular season.

Houston this year made it to the World Series for the first time. The Chicago White Sox swept the Astros in four games.
