Money Woes Continue For Red Cross

by Ramonica R. Jones

The Red Cross distribution center in Lufkin has cut back on its donations to East Texans. Running the warehouse is an expensive operation, so now, families needing food can only go to the center one day a week instead of two.

Last week, Red Cross volunteers found out they may have to start paying for the shipments from Tyler. It's something they just cannot afford to do.

Volunteer, Joann Arnold, said, "We have not, at this point in time, paid for the shipping; actually, just due to the fact that there were so many needs after Katrina and Rita and we had so many evacuees here in Lufkin. But, after next week, we will either have to pay for the shipping or we will have to discontinue the food distribution."

The distribution center will now only be open on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
