Wednesday's windy weather helped a woods fire in northern Polk County to spread. Firefighters have no idea what started the fire. It happened near Corrigan.
Several acres of land burned until they finally got it under control. No one got hurt and no residents had to be evacuated, but a lot of the forest was charred.
Lt. Buck Starling, Corrigan volunteer firefighter, said, "What caused this fire is unknown. We have a theory that it must've been a big truck coming down through here; chain coming loose, sparked the road, and caught the grass on fire."
The Texas Forestry Service, along with the Corrigan, Diboll, and Livingston volunteer fire departments, helped put out the fire.
