Popular Party Man Dies From Sudden Illness

A well known and well liked Nacogdoches businessman has died. Even those who didn't know Park Smith will miss the owner of the popular store, Party 'n Things. Smith knew the elements of a fun party whether it was a kids' birthday party or a very adult affair. Smith was diagnosed with liver cancer three weeks ago. Shortly before that he and his wife and business partner Maury were vacationing after the store's busiest time, Halloween.

His staff tied bouquets of balloons on the storefront, something Smith did every day for 25 years. Smith had many friends, including the Nacogdoches Junior Forum's shopping extravaganza Holiday In The Pines. The organization is missing Smith. For years Party 'n Things occupied a full room at the Fredonia Convention Center. Smith would show off unique toys that were always found under Christmas Trees.

Smith won't be at the event that begins on Friday, but his wife and staff have decided with the forum's help to participate in Holiday In The Pines. They'll be joined by over 70 merchants for the two day event that gets underway Friday.

Smith was 51 years old. Funeral services for Smith will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Smith Memorial Fund; Austin Bank, 3120 North St., Nacogdoches, Texas 75965. Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.
