Traffic flow, fuel availability, and special needs are just a few of the areas that could use some improvement during a hurricane evacuation. That's according to an emergency task force gathering public input on the response to Katrina and Rita.
The group also talked about a more rigorous identification system to better account for people with special needs, criminal backgrounds, or drug-abuse issues.
Big changes are planned for the next hurricane evacuation.
Trey Henderson said, "It's not gonna be 'if it happens again', the question's gonna be 'when does it happen again?' When it happens again, we want to be prepared to do the best we can to make the state prepared to take care of its citizens and evacuate eveyrone and make sure we get them to safety."
The group has to submit its recommendations to Governor Perry by February 17th.
