Lufkin Student Recovering After Accident

by Jessica Cervantez

A Lufkin high school student who was in a serious car accident earlier this month will be spending his birthday in the hospital.

Sixteen-year-old Chad Cooper turns 17 years old on Sunday. Cooper was in an accident coming home from a Lufkin Panther football game.

Family and friends weren't sure if Cooper would pull through but, they say, he is now recovering well. His condition is not life threatening anymore, but recovery will be a long process. He will be sent to one of five rehabilitative centers in Texas that specialize in closed head injuries.
Cooper suffered a cracked skull, torn ligaments in his neck, and bruising in his brain.
