When homes are empty, unwanted guests have an opportunity to come in the house. But, there are some simple things you can do to keep burglars away.
Nacogdoches County Sheriff Thomas Kerss said, "Have a neighbor or relative move vehicles around while you're gone, and let them be seen on the property. It gives the appearance that someone's there, and putting the lights on a timer also works well."
Do not forget to have your mail picked up, so it does not pile up when you are gone.
Sheriff Kerss said, "Or, you can call those offices and have them hold off on delivery."
Something else you might not think about, but is a good idea.
Sheriff Kerss said, "You can call your law enforcement agency in the city or county and ask for extra patrol while your gone. Leave a contact number in case we need to get a hold of you."
Following the simple tips, can help keep your home safe while you are away.
