Abitibi's Future Looking Up

Things are looking up for the future of the Abitibi paper mill in Lufkin. A big goal has been to find an alternative energy source for the mill.

Now, Abitibi has found a couple of solutions that involve bio-mass. Wood waste, wood chips, and tire waste could create energy and steam. Those are items used at the mill.

Abitibi reps have been visiting the mill and talking with Lufkin city leaders about possibly re-opening the mill.

An announcement on whether the mill will be started up again is expected by the summer of 2006.
