The Lufkin Police Department has plans for extra DWI enforcement during the holiday season.
Starting Friday, officers will work extra night duty. They'll mainly be on the lookout for drunk drivers. The extra enforcement is part of TxDOT's S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program).
Drunk driving is always a problem during the holidays, but officers will also be watching for seatbelt and speeding violations.
Lt. David Young said, "Go out, have a great time, but use a designated driver. Buckle up when you do drive and haven't been drinking, and please drive within the speed limit - and watch out for the other guy."
The extra DWI enforcement ends January 2nd.
