Blood donations often slow down during the holiday season, but the need for blood does not. More traffic accidents and elective surgeries this time of year increase that need.
The Blood Center of East Texas has to have a thousand units of blood a month to supply the eight hospitals they serve. Linda Warner, of the blood center, said, "People ask me all the time what type do we need. I say, 'The type you are is the type we need.'"
The blood center's Commit for Life program is doubling points for donors who give blood Wednesday and Thursday. They will be tripling points Friday, Saturday, and Monday. With the points, you can go online and buy items in the Commit for Life store.
