After performing CPR on young LeKendrick Yarbrough, they rushed him to Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches, but it wasn't enough to save his life. Friday night, friends and family gathered outside of the emergency room, hoping and praying for the best after the 15-year-old player collapsed.
The Timpson varsity basketball player had just come off the court when he slumped over another player. A family member gave him CPR until paramedics arrived, but Yarbrough died.
"This is a great kid with a great smile, and he had a great attitude. He was one of our finest," says Timpson Superintendent Leland Moore. "It's hard. Prayer changes things, and we all must pass, so it was his time to go, and I just hope everyone keeps the family in your prayers", says Charleston Johnson.
Saturday afternoon, the entire community came together to deal with their grief.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 5, 2006 at the First Smyrna Church in Timpson. Family members are waiting on an autopsy to find the cause of the teen's sudden death.
