Andrea Yates has been released from jail. She is going to RuskStateHospital here in East Texas to await her second capital murder trial in the bathtub drowning deaths of her children.
A $200,000 bond was posted on her behalf by her attorney, George Parnham, in Houston. That released her from custody for the first time since the June 2001 deaths of her five children. State District Judge Belinda Hill set the bail yesterday in Houston.
The 41-year-old former Houston homemaker said nothing as she left custody. She was carrying a brown paper sack and wearing jeans, white sneakers, and a blue-and-white striped shirt. She got into a car with Parnham and a private investigator, headed for the state hospital in Rusk.
