Consumer Confidence Up in East Texas

"I'm a born shopper, I love to shop," Jeanie Latham, a Lufkin resident said.

And she is not the only one. January is typically the month for recovering after the holidays, but local stores are seeing big numbers.

Susan Coats, the Belk store manager, said, "It's been a good January, we had a very good December, we thought it would slow down, but it hasn't."

Latham said, "People are spending more wisely, and thinking before they buy."

Target is also seeing an increase from last year.

Kris Hoepfner, the Target store manager, said, "The dollar amount per person is more, so it offsets foot traffic, people are spending more."

That is good news for store sales, and they are looking for another big month in February with Valentine's day.

Coats said, "It is a huge month for us, we are seeing a lot of people already buying."

Remember February 14th is just around the corner and you do not want to forget about that special someone.
