A Lufkin fire captain is lucky to be alive after he crashed a fire truck Thursday afternoon. Authorities said the man passed out while driving on a busy road.
Engine 7 was headed north on South First Street when the driver collapsed and ran off the road. The truck crashed into a light pole in front of the adult probation center.
Fire Marshal Duane Freeman said, "One of our captains was making a routine trip from the fire station down on South John Redditt. He was coming to the Fire Administration Building for some routine administrative work and had an accident of some sort. We don't know the cause of it. He was in the vehicle by himself and veered off the roadway and struck a pole."
